Two million new books are published yearly, and yet we only see the same handful of books over and over, especially from dominant monolingual writers from the Anglosphere. In Reading the (Un)Familiar, Jin curates translated and diasporic literature to provide reading suggestions beyond what you can find on mainstream recommendation lists.

If you already love big names like Min Jin Lee, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Roxane Gay, Octavia Butler, Han Kang, R. F. Kuang, and Jhumpa Lahiri, you’re in the right place. Your curator is currently interested in contemporary feminist Korean writers, as well as other Asian/diasporic Asian writers, and other writers in translation (loosely defined, more to come on that).

Follow along for regular posts to find your next read!

Jin is open to receiving book recommendations and advance reader copies to review, as well as any related professional/business/creative inquiries. Email her at jinrebekahchoi at gmail dot com.
